SUMMARY:

Lab Service Manager (LSM) add-on is the perfect application for service core & test labs.

You can read more about LSM on our Blog.

The requesters (clinics or institutes collecting samples) can submit orders to service test labs to perform tests on samples using the LabCollector add-on.

You can create different parameters for jobs(test-orders), sample information, tests (protocol, reagents, equipment, input/processing/result-parameters), and configure your job according to your requirements.

You can also create templates for your reports such as results, invoices, Chain of Custody (CoC).

Thus before starting with LSM you need to configure certain parameters in order to create tests and execute a job.

Follow the steps below to start with LSM:-

1. Create users and requesters

2. Create/import reagents & Equipment

3. Create-import protocols & sample types

4. Create parameters for tests

5. Create templates -Result & Invoice

6. Create a test in LSM

7. Generate a result report

8. Manage cost & generate Invoice

1. Create users and requesters

  • Users are people in the lab that will perform the tests. For example, it can be a researcher, technician, engineer, etc.
  • The requester is an institute such as a clinic or hospital that collects the samples and sends them for testing to service or test labs.
  • These service labs use LSM.
  • LSM offers different types of user-level permissions. this means that you can set a level for each ‘user’ in LSM if he/she is a technician, validator, etc.
  • In order to create users & requesters, you need to go to LSM -> ADMIN -> CONTACTS.
  • See our KB on how to create users and requesters.

2. Create/import reagents & Equipment

  • For your tests, you can directly import reagents and equipment from LabCollector.
  • You can also use this information in your “processing” report that is used for internal purposes in the lab.
  • In order to create/import reagents & equipment, you need to go to LSM -> ADMIN -> REAGENT/EQUIPMENT.
  • See our KB on how to create/import reagents & equipment.

3. Create-import protocols & sample types

  • To perform tests you can create a set of protocols that the technician or a user performing the test can easily follow.
  • This also helps keep test procedure standardized.
  • A service test lab can receive various sample types and hundreds of samples in each type.
  • To sort out the various sample, LSM allows you to create categories for samples called ‘sample types’.
  • In order to create/import protocols & sample types, you need to go to LSM -> ADMIN -> PREFERENCES -> PROTOCOLS / SAMPLE TYPES.
  • See our KB on how to create protocols & sample types.

4. Create parameters for tests

  • Tests require various parameters. For example, a simple test for COVID can require first to extract DNA check its purity, perform RT PCR with of various reagents (oligonucleotides, primers, PCR buffers, DNA polymerase enzyme, etc.), then create a report if a person is COVID positive or negative.
  • Thus you can create parameters for the tests like the input parameters such as the purity of RNA extracted, the CT value of the PCR, COVID-positive or negative, etc.
  • In order to create parameters for tests, you need to go to LSM -> ADMIN -> PREFERENCES -> PARAMETERS.
  • See our KB on how to create parameters for a test.

5. Create templates -Result & Invoice

  • Once you have performed your tests, you need to prepare the reports that you either give to the patient or to the institute (requesters) that provided you with the sample.
  • Thus LSM allows you to create various types of templates, it can be result, invoice, CoC, batch templates.
  • In these templates, you can add parameters in the form of dynamic fields to create a report automatically with certain parameters.
*Check our KB on dynamic field usage in LSM reports.
  • In order to create parameters for tests, you need to go to LSM -> ADMIN -> PREFERENCES -> RESULTS & INVOICE TEMPLATES.
  • See our KB on how to create results & invoice templates.

6. Create a test in LSM

  • Once you have configured the LSM with all the above information, now you can utilize this information to create a test.
  • This test will be used, when you create a job.
  • A job will contain the sample or samples, the test or tests to be performed.
  • In order to create parameters for tests, you need to go to LSM -> ADMIN -> PREFERENCES -> TESTS.
  • See our KB on how to create a test.

7. Generate a result report

  • Once the test is finished and validated the job reaches a finished state.
  • Now you can generate result reports based on the template you created in section 5.
  • Please see out KB on how to generate reports in LSM.

8. Manage cost & generate Invoice

  • At the end of the job execution, the service labs send the quote/purchase order or an invoice to the requester for performing the test.
  • In LSM you can manage the prices for your test costs and also create an invoice template as described in section 5.
  • Please see out KB on how to invoice reports in LSM.
