How to connect USB printer to LabCollector?

LabCollector allows you to create barcodes for all the records, using their unique ID’s. These barcodes help to gather all the information related to the specific record. You can create barcodes for all samples, reagents, etc. 

To set up and use the USB printer, follow the below steps:

1. Set up the USB printer

  • USB printers: It is a local printer that is only connected to one PC. It cannot be connected to other PC simultaneously.
  • Once the new printer arrives at your place, please open it carefully.
  • Thoroughly read the manual that comes with the printer to understand how it functions.
  • You can also find a YouTube video for the introduction of the printer you purchased. For example, for a Brady BBPP11 printer, check this link to see the video.
  • Similar way you can find specific video related to your printer.
  • Once you are aware of how the printer parts function, switch on the printer.
  • Install the drivers of the printers from the CDs or from the website of the printer that you have bought.
  • To know which printer you have you can either check it in the manual that comes with the printer or google the printer’s specific series name. For example, there are several Brady printers, each has a specific series name like BBPP11-34L.
  • If you are connecting the printer for the first time, you need to install the relevant printer drivers.
  • For further information on how to configure printers with LabCollector.
  • You need to configure settings for the USB printer in LabCollector, which is explained below in section 2.

2. Configure USB printer & label settings in LabCollector

  • NOTE: For EPL Zebra or Brady printers you can also use them as a USB printer and you can define them in LabCollector using the below way.
  • To connect a Zebra/Brady printer only working with USB to LabCollector, you have to follow these few steps:
    1. Install the printer driver.
      *Install the drivers of the printers from the CDs or from the website of the printer that you have bought. The driver, if already installed will be available by the name and series of your printer.
    2. For the next step, you need to download & Install the Raw Printer bridge utility.
      – You can download this utility from your client area by going to DOWNLOADS -> UTILITIES -> ZEBRA NETWORK BRIDGE.
      NOTE:
      Even though the raw printer bridge is named Zebra it works for both Brady and Zera printers series.

    3. During the installation of the Zebra network bridge, select the correct printer driver that you installed in step 1.
    4. Once you have installed the driver and utility successfully you need to configure the settings in LabCollector, under ADMIN -> OTHER -> SETUP -> PRINTERS & LABELS.
      – To configure you will need your PC’s IP address.
      – The IP (Internet Protocol) address from the PC where it’s connected and where the bridge is running.

      NOTE: USB printers do not need IP, however we need to use computer IP.

  • You can set up the roll & label type of your barcode printer in LabCollector by going to ADMIN -> OTHER -> SETUP -> PRINTERS & LABELS.
