SUMMARY:

You can easily import your data in LabCollector. For this purpose, LabCollector offers you custom fields & predefined default fields which you can use to import your data.

For example in our Primers modules, various default fields like primer orientation or the quality of the primer, markers on 3′ or 5′ end of the marker.
Each of these default fields has a value. For example, the orientation of a primer is by default in LabCollector as “direct/reverse or unknown”. Thus, direct, reverse, or unknown are “values” for the default field orientation.

The values for these default fields for each module (there are 12 by default modules in LabCollector) are described below in this knowledgebase.

The custom fields on other hand are created manually and hence the values that you enter for them are known by you.

The values for each field can help you organize your data before importing it. You can organize your data in a CSV where you can name the columns according to the name of the default fields and the values of default fields for your data respectively. For example, if you are importing a list of primers that you have in your lab already. You can create a CSV where one of the column names can me ‘orientation’ and you can define values for each of your primers if they are oriented in a direct or reverse or in an unknown way.

Follow these steps to check the values for default fields:-

1. Default fields

2. Values for default fields

IMPORTANT:

  • The minimum requirements to import are the fields “Name” and “Owner” (to create in the CSV to import). The ‘name’ represents the name of the item to import and ‘owner’ is the person in charge of the item.
  • The owner must be preconfigured in the LabCollector system before importing the data.
  • Generally, only the super admin can import the data. However, where other users have permission to import, they need to also create fields that are mandatory in the default or custom fields.
  • The default/custom mandatory fields will have a red asterisk above them. For example, like below, where the strains and cells module has a field called “organism” which is necessary to fill in the CSV before importing (along with ‘Name’ & ‘Owner’). Hence, along with ‘Name’ & ‘Owner’, the mandatory fields are also important for important, without which there will be an error.

Please see our KB, to know more about how to import your data.

1. Default fields

  • To check the default fields for each module go to ADMIN -> DATA -> DEFAULT FIELDS (highlighted in yellow under field options are the default field names).

  • You can check the field name like above for the module of your choice.

2. Values for default fields

  • The values for the default fields for all modules are either predefined in the LabCollector system or can be defined by going to PREFERENCES MENU.
  • All the values which are predefined are described in the table below. The values that you can define are also described below.
