LabCollector Modules

Features in Detail

LabCollector LIMS is modularly conceived. Each module has been designed with the end-user scientist in mind. Absolutely no informatics skills are required and LabCollector LIMS can be used immediately without complex configurations or long learning phases (an easy all-in-one installation wizard is provided for a quick installation). Labcollector LIMS can be extended with custom and/or 3rd party modules.

LabCollector uses new technology like AJAX (Web 2.0) for a smooth and quick browsing experience.

 

Quick start and easy customization:

All modules are pre-configured with standard fields, for an easy and quick start. But to fit to you lab specific data scheme, LabCollector LIMS includes customization possibilities like unlimited extra fields and module preferences definitions (like drop-down menu selectors). Custom fields types include: text fields, date fields, checkbox and drop-down select lists with predefined values. Custom fields can be organized into groups that are then displayed or not on the records. Custom field masks can be defined. Custom modules design is also possible as an option.

 

Samples Module:

This module stores any kind of samples that your lab manipulates. You can custom define sample types. Lab staff can add multi-level processes or tests to each sample, which are kept by entry date and can be easily created with predefined process types indication and associated to phase specific reports. Samples and associated processes are connected to its operator. Sample data can be linked to other sample records or information on other modules. An analysis tab allows to display custom fields for storing analysis results or secondary information.

Samples' records include an analysis tab easily configured to store lab analysis results.

Batch sample import is easy with link to Micronic's 96 well scanner.

Strains & Cells Module:

This module keeps and displays information about all bacteria, cells or other organisms owned by the lab. It is great for efficient search for the origins of a strain and where it is stored. Strains data can be linked to other strain records or information on other modules. A registry log book keeps track of all actions performed on the strains automatically or by manual entries (example: vial removal, new cell stock expansion, etc.). Direct sample derivation. An analysis tab allows to display custom fields for storing analysis results or secondary information.

Plasmids Module:

This module stores and allows the search for plasmid data. Plasmid records can associate one sequence and one map image. Search engine can accept sequence queries. One can also find matching primers for the plasmid sequence. Annealing search is done in both direct and reversed/complement directions and with primer degenerate code. Plasmid data can be linked to other plasmid records or information on other modules.

The module integrates our NetPlasmid Editor to create, manage and share colored plasmid maps easily. It also generates automatic plasmid maps from the sequences with automatic ORF and restriction enzymes detection. Markers are also identified (ex: Ampicilin).

Primers Module:

This module stores information about primers. Primer records include details like orientation, purity, labels and availability. Search engine can accept sequence queries. Primers data can be linked to other primer records or information on other modules. There is also the possibility to manage a primers order and synthesis list.

Primer annealing tool: One can also find matching template sequences for a particular primer, looking on plasmid or sequences modules. Annealing search is done in both direct and reversed/complement directions and with primer degenerate code. A self-explanatory logo indicates the match confidence between primers and sequences:

The partial annealing feature (30% homology annealing) is provided to find primers used for direct mutagenesis or constructions like "tag" fusions. The primer annealing tool is ideal to find primers or sequences related to each other without having to do time consuming cross-information data entry between primers and sequences. It is completely automatic.

Sequences Module:

This module stores sequences common to lab experiments, allowing for example a quick access by scientists not familiar with a sequence used by another scientist, without having to decrypt GenBank records or other public databases. It is great to store and search for prototype or working sequences of the lab. One can also find matching primers for the sequence. Annealing search is done in both direct and reversed/complement directions and with primer degenerate code. Sequence data can be linked to other sequence records or information on other modules. Sequence records also keep all external files that you which to associate, like ABI files, etc. Some Bioinformatics tools are provided for quick sequence manipulation and transformation (ORF finder, translation, etc)

Use Entrez GenBank import module to quickly download and directly import multiple nucleotide and associated protein sequences at once.

Sequences Module

Reagents & Supplies Module:

This module stores any kind of reagents, chemicals or even supplies that are used in your lab. Search and browse by keyword, allows quick access to reagents data. The module allows complete custom categorization, risk and safety data management and associates sellers or local distributors contacts (with item price). It also keeps track of each different lot with available quantity and original barcode number.

The automatic Inventory tool gives a way to update reagents' quantities quickly and better follow real stock state.

 

Procurement tools:

To speed up order and stock renew, the module allows a one-click memorization of items to order into a Purchase Order Management interface . This list can be printed with all information required for ordering process. The order list includes a detailed ordering management system (status of orders) with historical data. An alerts system can be activated to announce articles expiring or reaching minimum quantities. Automatic batch creation on received articles can be performed (the system allows parcial deliveries). Purchase Order Forms can be generated with 1 click using predefined form templates.

E-Orders direct ordering system to:

Budgets follow-up is also possible. Each user group can follow the remaining money on the budget accounts. An invoice vault is also present to keep all past orders invoices at hand.

Risk Icons and Phrases

Antibodies Module:

This module stores your antibodies that your lab manipulates. You can custom define several options (isotypes, species, applications, etc.). With this module you can perform powerful searches of antibodies according to several criteria. Antibody data can be linked to other records or information on other modules.

Animals Module:

This module stores information for your animals facilities. This is useful to manage which animal cages are currently hosted, their status, ongoing experiments, etc. Current and past animals are stored and quickly searched. Barcode tagging on cages will give easy data retrieval. A commentaries box allows quick observations storage. Wireless support gives even more flexibility. An analysis tab allows to display custom fields for storing analysis results or secondary information.

Chemical Structures Module:

This module stores chemical structures that your lab manipulates. It supports 2D and 3D structures like chemicals or protein PDB models (MOL/SDF and PDB file types). You can link the structures to reagents or any other module. SD files with multiples structures can be imported automatically. A powerful sub-structure search engine can be added to take full benefit of this database.

Provides JMol applet for molecule visualization and requires the free MDL Chime Plug-in to be installed for spectra graphs.

Microarrays Module:

This module stores raw microarray data. The microarray experiments collection keeps a memory of lab work. It includes a compilation engine to display raw data in a format way with coloring highlights for better identification of genes of interest.

Equipment Module:

This module stores information on equipments on the lab. This is useful to manage warranty and other contracts associated to each equipment. Documents can be linked like manuals for example. Equipment maintenance record and tracking is included with alerting possibility. The maintenance alerts can be organized in different categories to manage different routines in the maintenance work.

Documents Module:

This module stores any kind of documents to be shared on the lab network. They remain in a categorized tree organization, searchable and browsable. It is ideal for sharing protocols, papers, projects, presentations and much more. The module also includes a document editor to create new documents from scratch.

Address Book Module:

The address book can be used and configured at wish to manage any kind of contacts, like partners, clients, vendors, etc. It can be used in association with Reagents and Equipment modules to link vendors to records from those modules. You can so use LabCollector to store client samples and data and have those records linked to effective client contacts.

Custom Module: (optional)

If your lab needs to manage specific data, you can add custom modules (in option). These modules are fully customizable. You can choose a name, define required tools for data management and you can edit your own custom fields and setup the search engine. These modules will help your lab to manage data which can't be entered in standard LabCollector modules. A custom module works like ohter meaning, you can add storage location, database links with other entries and log activity.
You can acquire as many custom modules as needed.
